as a bloke I am cringing at Surfdude's lecherous comments. So Surfdude, try imagining you are in the pub, and a load of female cyclists are discussing bras. How likely is it that you will have any success in striking up witty and entertaining conversation with them by making Benny Hill comments over their shoulders every few seconds? NOT AT ALL likely. Put a sock in it mate.

Edit: Totally agree (although that's not what I originally typed)

Ms Mickle's generously proportioned puppies are so difficult to control that she only wears super duper fitted £75 industrial strength units from a specialist here in York. She wore regular cheapo ones for years but reckons she'll not go back and tells anyone who'll listen that they're worth every penny. What surprises me is how tight she has to wear them to keep everything pointing north. She wears them on her bikes too. Though she rides a lot it's generally urban riding rather than sporty/sweaty cycling. I assume they make sports bra's for gazzongas, do they?

I'm sure it's worth repeating that wearing a bra in bed is a big no-no. It's linked to increased risk of breast cancer, thought to be caused by restriction of blood flow.

Really? I've never heard that before - but I had read that Marilyn Monroe and many stars of her era wore bras, especially of the more supportive kind day and night to prevent sagging.

My wife buys from Rigby & Peller (sp?) in London - and has done for near on 30 years - precisely because they have staff there that know how to measure properly. They are expensive but, it seems, worth every penny. My wife says the run of the mill M&S or Debenham's bras just aren't comfortable. She'll happily wear R&P bras for cycling but has a sports bra for the treadmill.

i also heard that wearing a bra in bed can be linked to breast cancer (lack of circulation) but i've also heard that wearing deodorant can be too (blocking the pores where impurities come out) but i'm not sure how true it is. i don't think there's anything official on it, might just be on of those nasty viral rumours. if you're uncomfortable in bed without one i'm not sure i'd get worked up about wearing some kind of light support.

The deodorant one is linked to the use of parabens in deodorant, to do with the type of chemical rather than the blocking I think. Like you, I've no idea how much truth in it there is, you'd hope if it was official someone would eventually advocate a ban. Anyway, there are loads that don't have parabens so I use one of those, just in case...

Re: bed bras, am ashamed to confess I flicked through the Daily Mail yesterday - there was an article about bras in bed - they said it wasn't in any way linked to breast cancer, but as it was the Daily Mail I don't know that I'd trust the article

I thought it was the aluminium chloroydrate. I spend ages in shops looking for aluminium-free deodorants. I avoid parabens as a matter of course anyway.

Now that I've been wearing mine all day, I'm not convinced I got the exactly right size, though endless fiddling with the shoulder straps has made quite a difference.

But, wow, how have I gone all my life without ever wearing one? It even coped with the lane of pothole doom. I am a convert. Thank you, Thelma, for starting this thread and everyone who has made (positive) contributions

I'd just like to say that I find a part of this thread mildly disturbing ... Baggy, the Daily Wail ... jeez.
If it makes you feel any better, I pinch the Mail from work to use as kindling - so satisfying to see it going up in flames :becool:
Ravenbait, I'm certain it was the Aluminium compounds in Antiperspirants (which I believe were only in Aerosol types?).
Aluminium rings a bell, too, but there are a fair few things online that also talk about parabens.
BTW, very pleased we havev so many lady CCers.
There are more than I thought - and a few I didn't realise were of the female persuasion!
