Foolishly I bought a frame off ebay for my new bike that came sans braze-ons for mudguards and a bottle cage, so can't use conventional screw-on types that rely on braze-ons.

Have been looking around at my options and have come across a few things, but there seems to be a lot out there so thought I should ask what people have and what their experiences have been.

Clearances on my bike are fairly generous (frame was originally designed for 27" wheels so there's a couple cm space left with 700c wheels) so don't necessarily need something like the Crud Roadracers. Also, would be nice to get something in silver - metal if possible, purely for aesthetic purposes

Only need one bottle cage, and happy to get a new bottle if required as my current one has absorbed washing up liquid and everything I put in it tastes a bit funky!

I bought a double bottle holder for my old Raleigh fixed conversion which fits behind the saddle. You can then screw whatever bottle cages you want onto it. See below:

Bottle cages :

Decathlon - rubber band is fragile
VIP Elite - best of the cheapies, but still not very robust
Rixen+Kaul - very solid, need to tighten band hard to stop it rotating around tube, so not suitable for superlightweight frames. Also holds bottle a long way from the frame tube - looks odd.
Bike Buddy Mk1 - not tried this one yet.

Mudguards - SKS Chromoplastics are plenty big enough for a frame sized for 27" wheels. P-clips are your friend for fixing at the bottom end - or you can bodge a bracket that fits over the axle, but this can make wheel removal tricky.

I use the VIP Elites on my Langster. Never had any problems since I put them on last summer

Thanks guys! Those VIP Elites look just the ticket. Shame they don't come in Silver!

EDIT Ah the red 2010 Langster Steel. A thing of beauty! Didn't realise they come with no braze-ons. Respect you decision to replace the wheels - those all chrome things are a bit OTT and must weigh a ton! Same tires as me too ;)

Yes it is a lovely looking bike and the wheels had to go, not the best quality... I bought some hand made ones from Spa Cycles, the bike flies now.
