I managed to kill my M R after about 2 years of constant use by washing the tin in the sink. What I didn't realise was that the bearing in the base of the tin was rusting up and eventually siezed completely. Replaced with a Panasonic which is still going after 5 years. It does say "never immerse in water" in the instructions so I just give it a quick wipe-down after every use (no mention of that in the M R instructions).
I've tried baking by hand, but it doesn't work for me.

I did exactly the same - washed the M R tin and broke it. I like my replacement Panasonic much more and I've probably had it at least 5 years too. I use it to make dough for bread buns. I can't slice bread sensibly so if I make a loaf I end up with huge doorstep sandwiches. I'm too lazy to knead dough, but I sometimes make things like soda bread that doesn't need kneading :smile:

There it is, my very first hand made brown loaf. I shall enjoy it shortly with some butter.

We have a kenwood one. The MR one died. Not bearing seizure but water pissing out the seal in the bottom.

Makes nice jam too.

When I kill this one I will get a mixer and a dough hook

At least that avoids the annoying paddle-shaped hole in the bottom of the loaf.
And miss out on the suspense of, 'is it going to be at a right angle to the slice, or parallel?'

I half do that, let the bread maker mix the dough, knead it by hand, then shape, rise, and bake in the oven.
Me too... my breadmaker (Panasonic of course;)), has been used for 15 years or so and still going. I very rarely buy bread, and just put spare loaves in the freezer for emergency situations when I realise we have run out. I can't remember the last time I actually used the bake part of it. I have started making some cheats sour dough by hand but I'm not brilliant at kneading.

I'm only a beginner and mine turned out very well. I look forward to seeing yours.

My daughter detoured her bike ride to drop by when she found out I had baked it and it's more than half gone now!

Luckily I had an idea this would happen so I prepared a no-knead dough before I went to bed last night and it's in the oven right now. Just a plain white sourdough for my week's sandwiches.

It doesn't look like a beginner's attempt and you are much more organised than me, I only bake once a week and when it's gone, that's it until Saturday
