As above thinking of changing to sum new pads in time but not sure what’s a sour and prices etc I vison wheels not carbon

Looking at other threads, assuming the bike is still the 2016 Defy 0, it likely has rim brakes (otherwise why mention that the wheels are not carbon?).

I’d have a scan around Wiggle, Tredz, PlanetX etc and see what they offer. Swiss Stop pads always get a good review, although I haven't changed mine from whatever came with my bike so cannot offer a personal recommendation.
 
Swiss Stop pads are very good, but they are just to big to fit into standard Shimano 105 / Ultegra type blocks, without the aid of a mallet, IME.

If discs, then Uber Bike doe some good replacements. I swear by race matrix

I’ve got Swiss stops on my winter bike that’s fitted with Miche long drop brakes, they did make an improvement to the standard blocks they came with
