A Minging Manc...
Everyones different I commute 12 miles in the morning I like to do this on an empty stomach I then look forward to toast and cereal at work with strong coffee - IMO It will all depend on your level and at what intensity your ride is for example mine is 80 - 85% max heart rate from start to finish there is not enough time for the food to digest before I leave the house therefore I would get an upset stomach

Quite the opposite here. I work nights so get out of bed just in time to collect the kids from school then prepare a full family evening meal which is eaten in a hurry when my wife gets home from work. Straight after eating to the point where I nearly always wish I hadn't eaten so much I jump on my bike and 'sprint' for 10 miles to work (10 miles in around 35 minutes plus or minus 2 minutes). I have never really felt ill for doing this but I also don't think setting off without anything to eat would be a problem? I just do it this way because that is what family life dictates.

My advice to the OP would be have a normal breakfast before you go then you shouldn't really need to eat when you get to work until lunchtime. Obviously everyone is different and you will soon work out what works best for you.

My commute's only 5 miles and up at 06;30 and cereal followed by toast and tea - I leave at 08:10 so plenty digest time.
I usually kick it through rush hour traffic in about 18 mins and never puked.
Once at work no food until lunchtime.

Tony - glad to be back here after a while out

Bowl of porridge for me.
Commute is only 7 miles but I play football most lunchtimes, so I need the energy for that too. Then a buttie and some fruit for lunch.

Most I have when riding in is 1 weetabix and a cuppa, usually as soon as I get up, before I take the dog for a walk. To get all my bodily systems 'up and running'. I don't think with a 12 mile commute you're likely to 'bonk' on it?
However a potential problem would be getting a mile from home and realising I need the toilet. I like to think "it won't happen", but it has - when I've done a couple of long cross country runs.
On the bike it's not been a problem. But I've considered it - there's a couple of supermarkets with cafes en route
