By the way, Arthur Vichot won the French national road race (for the second time) and Alexis Vuillermoz came third. Does that answer your earlier question?

Not sure about the British championships 'becoming' devalued - big names not showing up is nothing new. ICBW but I think the Belgians have a rule that all eligible pros have to race the national championships.
Tinkoff have four national road champions in their ranks: Majka, Kreuziger, Blythe and Sagan. In addition they have Bodnar who became Polish ITT champ. Blimey.
The winners of the nationals are often skewed by whoever has a 'team' with him. A lot of decent riders are completely isolated and stand no chance.Does the national champion automatically get selected for the world championships? If not they should do.

Why? There are cases when the best riders don't ride, for various reasons. Automatic selection takes any discretion away (maybe not a good team rider, the National format encourages individual riding) which is never good.Does the national champion automatically get selected for the world championships? In that case there are a lot of us who are not British. What nonsense!Until Froome enters a national champs, I can't consider him a British rider.
He has never lived in the uk, or rode in the national champs. Shows no signs of Britishness other than using it for financial gains. In that case there are a lot of us who are not British. What nonsense!
