You won't see me on here very often because my route to work is relatively quiet and I attempt to avoid confrontation (40 years on the bike shows it achieves zilch). However.......
Late yesterday afternoon cycling home along busy'ish main road guy in car (guess what make) overtakes me and then pulls sharp left onto his drive in front of me. I think I cannot let this go as it was so in your face. So I stop retrace up pavement (quite wide) and wait for him to get out of car (parked in front of house). At first he does not see me but when he does comes up shouting in a loud voice 'At no time did i put you in any danger' repeatedly (before i could say anything!) - obviously in effort to prevent me from making my views known. I waited a while and then said in one of the gaps 'if you didnt feel guilty then you wouldnt behave like this' 'why did you put my life in danger'. Cue for continuation. All I wanted was an apology. Anyway i just got in one of the gaps 'Well you wouldnt have driven like that on your driving test would you' and turned away and rode off leaving him lost for words (after all how could he say 'yes'). I have thought of posting him a copy of the Highway Code for a laugh (or a slip of paper with the web address on it).
Another thought strikes me here - in his desperation to get past me he would have mown down anyone on the pavement as he entered his drive....... Selfish swine.
A little test:
- what type of car?
- how old was the guy?
No prizes just interested to see how our stereotypes bear out!
In conclusion: I have noticed an amazing drop in driving standards over the last month or so. It seems to be no quarter given these days by a small minority of drivers. Quite depressing.
