Brompton bottom bracket woes

Not sure if this is a Brompton specific problem but...

About six weeks ago, I started to experience a strange sluggishness from my Brompton transmission while riding along, which soon became total seizure. Inspection revealed that the plastic retaining cup on the non-drive side of the bottom bracket had unscrewed itself and jammed the crank.

The bottom bracket was probably overdue being replaced anyway, so I fitted a new one.

This morning, exactly the same problem happened again.

Any ideas why this might be happening? And how to prevent it?

Even for a bike that I've had nearly six years and was already a few years old when I bought it second hand?

I've met somebody whose rear end (oooh, missus) was replaced free of charge after ten years. Give it a go!

Blimey. Wish I'd known that before I spent £££ on getting the rear hinge fixed last year.
