They don't need innovation, they need fresh thinking.
It's not rocket science, get a decent hub for gearing, disc brakes etc etc. We all know where they should be at this juncture, so how come Brompton have their head up their arse? The clown leading the firm needs to step down and let fresh blood in.
It's all to play for, all it needs is to read the room and give the faithful what they want. They might even find some effort attracts new customers.

Why would it need disc brakes? They add weight and rim brakes work well in small wheels - a dusc wouldn't be much smaller than the rim.

What they should do is to iron out the deficiencies of the engjneering: the rear pivot, hinges and seatpost bush that need special tools to renew, the open rear triangle tubes that rust out, the headset cups that stretch the head tube at high mileages, and the silly use of a quill stem when no height adjustment is possible.

Sadly, just because it's alluminum does not make it lighter or better, it does slightly increase the likelihood of a stress failure if said fork isn't heavy enough to resist most flex.
Sure rim wreckers work fine on a small wheeled bike, yet they are destroying the wheel at 3 times the rate of a big wheeled bike. A 140mm disc is pretty small compared to a 349mm rim, the weight difference is negligible when you factor in heavier rims for rim brakes and the fact that it moves the weight toward center of the wheel. Mechanical discs are much easier to maintain, repair and rebuild than rim brake setups too.
Never had headset problems with the Brompton. Then again , teflon bushing can make an excellent headset done right , it doesn't go around much.
They already dealt with the rust out problems, probably 20 years ago.

My 2005 Brompton needed a respray at a year old because the rust pushed the powdercoat off. The headset issue only shows up at very high mileages but it can only really be bodged at home: the bottom of the head tube becomes belled because no-one told Brompton that head tubes need lugs, or reinforcing rings when fillet-brazed, to prevent the lower cup stretching the metal.

The very early Brompton's seem to have much better quality powder coating, they out sourced it in the early days, the finish on my 2021 Brompton just seems a bit thin.
