Am I alone in thinking that these 2 products might be closely related? They have a similar consistency and appearance, and given that beef dripping and leather come from the same animal - it just got me wondering if I was being a bit extravagant in paying £8 for a small tin of the stuff when a visit to the local butcher might do the same job ^_^.

I would prefer to hear if anyone else has been reckless enough to smear beef dripping over their good Brooks saddle before I try it myself .

Tim Severin crossed the Atlantic in a boat made of animal hides stretched over a wooden frame. They waterproofed the hides by rubbing them with sheep fat which worked but stank to high heaven.

The purpose of the voyage was to prove that the legend of St Brendan crossing from Ireland to America centuries before Christopher Columbus was at least technically possible.

So it should work on a Brooks but may whiff a bit ,wouldnt wear white shorts though (amazes me that anyone ever does)
