Brooks saddles

I like my 2018 B17, but my most comfortable saddle is a Spa Nidd, which is even heavier than the Brooks. It only became comfortable after a thorough soaking followed by a 5 mile ride. Previously I had tried tenderising it with a rubber mallet , but that didn't work.

I’m a big Brooks B17 fan. I have one on all three bikes, the oldest is ca 2004 and cost £25. The main downside is they are 200g more than others and the saddle rails are short. The upside is I find them so comfortable I gave up padded shorts many years ago.

They mould to your shape over time. Mine fitted right off - I must have a Brooks shaped backside :-)

I think that's the key: either you have a Brooks shaped backside when you get it, or, you put up with it for 2000km, and if you're lucky, then you'll have a Brooks shaped backside.

Yes, that’s correct. The first one probably took more than 500 miles but after that each new one has been comfy from the start. Probably because I’m used to them and that they are thinner than they used to be.

I think this is key. Evidently I too have a Brooksian arse so never needed any breaking in never mind treating with various lotions and potions.
