I'm having problems with trying to phone out ... sounds more like a modem than a dialing tone. If I trying ringing myself using a mobile I get the engaged tone. Internet access seems flaky but better than the phone.

Now yesterday they replaced a bit of the line just near our house and cut us off for a couple of hours whilst they did it.

No idea if I'm putting 2 and 2 together and making 4 or 5 but I would like them to test the line... but can't ring out on the house number and the number I've found on-line to report from a mobile is shown as:

What are the ways to report a problem with my phone line?
You can report a fault online or by phone. Remember to check the troubleshooting section before you report a fault to avoid unnecessary charges.

Residential customers call:

For free on a BT line 151
For free on a non-BT line 0800 800 151
From a mobile 800 800 151 (there may be a charge)
which my mobile drops instantly... is that a valid number?

There is something about reporting it online but you have to be not using the line that you are reporting... bit difficult from home with just the one line.

Is there anything else I could do myself? (I'm a technaphobe - my techy other half has busied out my call to him as he is in a meeting).

Stick a 0 in front of the 800 and it should work, or pm me your landline number and I'll run the test for you.
