I just came across this and thought of this thread: Schwinn Collegiate

Forbes Article

Schwinn is bringing back the 1965 Collegiate, more or less, with a limited edition run, hand-welded chromoly frame made in USA. It's about $1000 USD, so maybe not quite budget, but definitely retro!

Decent commuter bike. You'd be paying the premium of the Made in USA tag however. And I tend not to associate slopping top tubes with retro...

Yes and Chinese components are then put on them by hand in the US.

You could say the same about just about anything, certainly most bikes. My point was that the "Made in USA" stamp = higher price tag. Regardless of whether it is actually fully manufactured in the US or just assembled there.

limited edition and slick green paint though :biggrin:

well it isn't quite to my taste; however it is a genuine new built retro bike.
