I thought a lot of you might be interested in this cycling scheme in Zambia supported by a charity which builds rugged bikes for people in rural areas.

Look decent solid bikes. The amount of similar bikes we send to landfill or scrap is shocking that just need minor attention to get working. I don't envy them the lack of gears for some of those hills but understand the importance of keeping the bikes simple.

You should know that this NGO World Bicycle Relief was founded by F.K Day and Leah Missbach
Day. FK and his brother were the founders of SRAM.

The Days developed the vision to not only have a bicycle that could me used to carry banana stalks. coffee, etc to market but also bikes for children to arrive at school. Providi9ng hardy bikes was a great idea. However, they were wise to have included a bicycle repair program training wrenchers and making sure spare parts were available.

The shipping of truckloads of bikes to developing countries was a wonderful gesture but a very short term solution

You can support WBR during the giving season. I am not related to it but have seen their bikes and worked on bicycling in Africa. You will not be throwing your money away.

They need a low gear, these bikes are twice as heavy as most. The kids in the original video were having to stand on the pedals just to move them on the flat.
