I've rebuilt an old bike and built a completely new bike. If you want to save money then buy it as a complete bike, however, if you want to do it cause you want to use your own parts or another reason then go ahead. Not difficult to do it. The net is full of information and tips. The experience will help you when servicing your bikes in the future.

You will need some tools which again, can be reused when maintaining your bike in the future.

Do it yourself, the feeling of smugness is awesome.

I don't know about PX but I do know Ribble won't supply a frameset unless they have fitted the headset, might be worth asking the question, but if even they don't it's a simple job anyway.

Is it worth swapping all the parts from a bike that is the wrong size frame? Or is that more hassle than buying all seperate bits from scratch?

Depends on the compatibility of things like the front mech and seat post etc.

I did this once and built up an early 80's Peugeot with a full modern 10 speed groupset. The only thing I forgot to check was the front mech.

Just meant I had to buy the right version and ebay the wrong one, no big deal really.

Just finished this SAB (see photo section for more info)

Built for about £440 inc pedals. Labour charges were £9.99 for headset and fork fitting - the only tools I didn't have to do the job.

SAB Alloy Frame £70 Ness Full Carbon Forks £50 FSA Orbit Headset £20 Planet-X Cap & Bung £10 Velox Bar Tape £3 Brand-X Spacers £4 Scor OS Bars £9 FSA OS Stem £10 Selle Italia Saddle £12.50 Deda Seatpost £14.50 On One Seatclamp £2 Vittoria Tyres £15 CST Tubes £4 Mach 1 Wheels £50 Shimano 2300 Groupset £100 (100 miles) Shimano Cables and Ferrules (Set) £15 Shimano UN55 Bottom Bracket £17 Velo chainstay protector £4 Cable rub protectors £3 Cable adjusters £4 SPD M520 pedals £15 Labour £10

Already had the computer, bottle cage and pump.

It's higher spec than the cheaper Triban 3 and most entry level models from Trek, Spesh, Giant which tend to have their own brand finishing kit.

Not too bad considering.

The description on the frame in my original post says that the headset is integrated. Do you think that means I won't need to worry about that bit?

Other than for fitting the crown race, no tools are required to fit in integrated headset, the bearings just sit in the headtube. There is the star nut, if you count that as part of the headset (which I would as it is there for pre-loading the bearings), that needs knocking in, but you don't need special tools as far as I know.
