£1.80 for me to travel 10 miles to town from tynemouth ( last I checked anyhow). 3.30 for a return so not that that bad.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
There isn't much point having bus passes if you don't have any busses

I went to my folks house down near Littlehampton by train some time ago. a single for the15 minute (4 mile) bus ride from Littlehampton station to the nearest bus stop to their house cost me £5.90. I can't be certain, but I don't think a taxi would have cost very much more.

Besides the driver, I was the only one on the bus. I'm hardly surprised. But then in terms of charging, I think this is the general theme with the Stagecoach group anyway.

Oh, and incidentely, the train ticket cost me £6.50 on a saver deal - just 60p more for the whole journey from London Victoria - about 70 miles.

A few years back, the car was in the garage for repair, and I took the kids to a local indoor play area as the weather was rubbish. Even with the bus driver offering the cheapest option for a return, it was about £9, for a trip of 2 miles.

In contrast, recently booked return fairs from Stockport to Euston, £75 for FOUR. Add in the cost of the family railcard, that's £95. Bargain.

My sis used to fly to Denmark quite regularly. It generally cost her more to get from her house in Croydon to Stansted than from Stansted to Copenhagen.

If somebody would be kind enough to put the cost of running a bus for a day along with driver etc. we would then be able to discus what would be a reasonable cost.

Or of course we could just moan and say what a rip off without understanding why prices are high.

Just a thought, very few buses would get better than 6mpg. As for the insurance, both road and public liability, depreciation, servicing, tyres, engines, gearboxes, support staff, building costs, rates, electricity. Even my own bill amount to quite a bit for them each month.

Having said all that, Shrewsbury park and ride only £2.50 for a party of up to 5 including parking, the journey is about 3 miles.

I took my 3 year old son on the bus last year a mile or so into town for a "treat". It turned out to be (much) slower than walking, and (much) more expensive than driving. No wonder there's so many cars on the road.

whatever the current oyster single fare is. I can get the 66 from Leytonstone to Romford which is about 30 minutes.

when we were in Bristol for the last weekend of the 2 week west country camping trip we got a bus from Temple meads to SS Great Britain. we asked the nice polish driver with a west country twang ( what a weird accent that was !) the cheapest fare. family day rover £10 2 adults and 2 kids.
