What made it slower than walking?

Combination of 25 minute wait for a bus that was supposed to be every 10 minutes and a tortuous route around the city centre.

If you are going to be in town for less than two hours, it's cheaper to drive there and pay to park than it is to get the bus here.

It costs me £1.50 single if I don't cycle home. Or £375 per year. (I travel to work with my OH, with the bike in the boot)

I bet you the price of used cooking oil has rocketed since people started converting their vehicles to run on it!

May then become cheaper to buy the unused stuff... then that will go up and chips will become a luxury!

The child single fare was £2.50, £4.90 for an adult.

Maybe I'm spoilt. I think these are outrageous pices for a 30 minute bus ride.

You're not spoilt, you just live in Sheffield (?)... a city big enough to offer lower fares per person. The only time I've ever thought 'wow... that's a cheap bus ticket' is when i've visited larger urban areas such as Leeds, Manchester or Bristol... they even have free buses in Manc city centre.

Anyhoo. Being the cruel wicked step mother that I am I have just forced my lovely boyfriend, son and step son to go on a car free camping holiday to Robin Hoods Bay.

We got the train to Scarborough and then bus to RHB. OH says I went visibly pale when bus driver told me the price of the fare from Scarborough to RHB for 2 adults and 2 children - £13!!!! This was for a day saver family ticket, and the driver proudly told me I could go all the way to newcastle with it. Brilliant, except I only wanted to go 30 minutes up the coast to RHB.
The single fare for an adult was £4.90, for 30 minutes on the bus!! Is this the most expensive bus fare in Britain?

We had planned to do quite alot of roving up and down the coast, but hadn't planned on the bus fares being so expensive, so we didn't bother. We had a nice walk to Whitby from RHB one day, The bus fare back was £11.40, so we opted for a taxi at £10.20!

And people wonder why the public at large are so attatched to their cars.

I just don't don't understand what you are complaining about. You are obviously rubbish at playing football. In one week for example, Gareth Bale* could afford to pay for you and yours to visit RHB 23,076 times over.

In China the standard price is 1 RMB (10p) for non airconditioned, 2 RMB for airconditioned. Any journey within the city. And a 60% discount if you use their Oystercard system.
