^^ I know, but I was saying that one can be caught out in any vehicle if you're not familiar with the area or just not with the times of enforcement

If only they put signs up telling people....

I think he was in his home town not an unfamiliar area though...and familiar enough to know the rules have changed from what I can tell

Maybe his daughter should look at cycling to work, nice clear bus lanes on bank holidays?

It's interesting to see how many people accept rules, rather than looking at them to see if there's an alternative way that achieves the goal more effectively.

Presumably, a law enforcing helmets and hi-viz or only approved lights, enforced use of cycle paths or a bale of hay in every taxi would be defended as vigorously.

No, it's not about accepting rules it's about avoiding responsibility.

Now, had you come on and said you disagreed with a bus lane and wanted to discuss how to get it changed then maybe you'd get a better reception. There's plenty of people in here who campaign. They don't usually start with being pissed off about a fine, calling those the administer it thriving bastards and working out a way of wriggling out of it.

Instead it was a 'it's not fair I got done' teddy bear out of pram post.

I don't agree with all rules. But if they need changing, then do so. Don't just bitch about it when you got caught because YOU DIDNT PAY ATTENTION when driving.

As for my thoughts I've no idea why bus lane are sometimes allowed. I'd have them enforced 24/7. I'd have them for buses and cyclists only. I see no reason to have two lanes for cars outside of fast A roads and motorways. So don't give me your moral crusade about what is right because I don't even believe what you want is right.

Not quite why I posted, (I've already sent off my payment btw) but I'm sure the others in the monastery agree with you.

...and I'm sure the mouth breathers on Pistonheads agree with you.

I should have put it on the other reply, but you seem the sort that likes a few replies, perhaps you should pay more attention?

The signs haven't changed in a fair while, what has changed (which is what I missed) was the policy.

Previously, they didn't enforce on bank holidays for the reasons I mentioned.

In that scenario, you would have been hogging the outside lane, rather than following the highway code as I believed I was.

I do hope your priest would make allowances for that transgression.

If you were on a motorcycle I might sympathise a little as the different boroughs in towns often have different rules about bus lane's. Take London for instance. You can ride a motorcycle on the old Kent road bus lanes but for the 200 yards under waterloo bridge, you cannot (Westminster borough I guess). Then later, inside Westminster, you can again.

Its all well signed but occasionally the busses block the signs so you have to just assume you cant ride in it untill you can see a confirmation sign...some 200 yards later.

To me, if in doubt, stay out.

You didn't and now need to pay the consequences. As for the righteousness of the lane, I think less rules, the better. So bank holidays, national celebrations, full moons, etc should all fall into standard Mon-Sat\sun

On the continent the speed limit changes according to the weather as well as the time of day...which I find daft as interpreting the definition of "poor" weather leaves so much opportunity for confusion.

Clear, simple rules

That doesn't really tally with your OP though.

Very true, it doesn't.

I was posting as much for daft replies as much anything. I rarely, if ever post anything to be taken seriously, because it just tends to attract the odd and banal, and life's just too short.

I let myself get sucked in to that odd world on this thread, and it's reminded me why I prefer the unusual and people that don't take themselves too seriously.
