Phew, busy day indeed...
Up at 5am, walk dog, get breakfast, drive to work. Today we,re modifying one of two machines, that leaves us vulnerable, orders to meet etc etc.
Three engineers working on mods, I get called to another part of the plant, spend 2 hours slowly getting deeper and deeper into a machine that started with a simple fault.
Back to the mods...grab a break,, get called back to the working machine....it's now broken down. NO packing now, f,kit...inspect the machine, it's sheared the bolts that mount the main drive...we,re now facing four hours work stripping it all back to get to the offending part.
Half way through that, one of the weighters has packed up...inspect that, find its belt pulley has parted company with the gearbox...probably two hours work, that will get seen to tomorrow.
I've stretched, strained, knelt, laid and sworn at a multitude of machines today. I did get breakfast, but that was it, no break since about 10am. I've sanded the skin off my thumb with an electric grinder, taken paracetamol and voltarol for my back which hates everything ive had to do today, and spent one hour hammering the crap out of a crossmember buried in the bowels of the machine, access almost impossible, wondering why it wouldn't budge....only to find there were hidden dowel pins to locate it on.. Oh....temn minutes later, it was off.
You can guarantee if there's a bad time for everything to go wrong....it'll choose that very time.
Home at 7pm.
Engineering.....it's never boring.
