Butterfly, bars

A mate called in on the way back from his ride this afternoon and I was standing chatting to him when something fluttered past my head and landed on his arm. It was a large butterfly whose wings were jet black when folded.

The butterfly walked about on his forearm for a while with wings closed together and then it stood still and relaxed them to reveal some splendid colouring. It seemed to have settled down so I dashed upstairs to get my camera and managed to get a picture of it before it flew off.

Very pretty, don't you think? (The butterfly, not my mate's arm... )

I've recently discovered why all my close-up photographs were out of focus - my camera has a special 'macro' mode that I didn't know about. I can now take really fantastic close-up shots.

Ho ho - yes, they are. He also has a very strange stem which appears to made of girders!
