Humber Bridge - 5th longest single span suspension bridge and the longest you can cycle over.
And I have several times
And I have several times

cancelledWhatever happened to a bridge going from somewhere near Thamesmead? There's an almost completely deserted dual carriage way along there and past Crossness STW to Erith which i was told when I lived there was for a bridge that was to be built over the river near there.
Definitely can cycle across the Humber Bridge. The whole FNRttC did last September![]()
A cable car in North Greenwich would be useful, as there are precious few ways of getting across the river in the East leading to massive queues for cars in the Blackwall Tunnel and on the Ferry.

Sorry, I can't get my head round this.
They are planning to CHARGE passengers and cyclists for crossing the Thames?
But cars go free through the tunnel?
Sum Mushtake Shirley?
It's a neat idea but hardly a new one. Practically every weekend I seem to hear that the Jubilee Line has been "suspended between Stratford and North Greenwich" - I keep meaning to go and have a look, it must require a truly enormous amount of cable to keep it all up.
1: It's going to be private funded (Del can probably confirm)
2: It's not a stupid idea at all due to the lack of decent river crossing in that particular part of London.
And just how many crossing points does the Thames actually have or need ?
Where I live, there are just three crossing points on a river which is 38 miles long, and any hold up or closure on any one of those involves something like a 20 or 30 miles detour.
Hardly fair I would suggest.
cars are free at Blackwall
If you regard this as the nearest comparison, I don't think it's that unreasonable point of view in a way.
nice selective quoting there.
no its not the nearest comparison. the others in the list show the comparisons quite nicely.
Dartford crossing is free to cycles AFAIAA and they stick the bike in the back of the escort vehicle.
some people just go looking for negatives in everything.

Stop being intellectually dishonest. No, just applying a teensy weensy bit of brainpower would allow you to see why someone might regard what I said as as so. The Blackwall is very close to the proposed site or the new cable car.
If you regard London as a whole you can do a comparison of crossings but most of them even out. I'm more bothered about whether a cycle is allowed to cross or not especially the further east you go.
eventually! (He says with some feeling - the FNRttC no longer goes that way....)Dartford crossing is free to cycles AFAIAA and they stick the bike in the back of the escort vehicle.
soon you will need a ladder to get over yourself. I suggest you do it soonest.![]()
Most of the crossings mentioned are very very close and as i have clarified , the dartford one is free to cycles but not cars.
although it won't stop people being negative, just like they were when the London Eye was proposed . for a temporary structure with a 5 year plan its not doing too bad 11 years on , and another 25years added to the lease.
opne could argue if the woolwich ferry goes because of it then 1 free crossing for bikes has gone, but there are far more free routes for cycles than paid routes for cars. its a public transport system, so will have a charge to be used.
I use the tube on my bike sometimes , especially if working late the other side of London. It costs me to use that, but my bike goes free. One would imagine if Tfl are running the cable car then the same rules will apply.
