I have agreed to buy two more today to restore. So that'll be 8 gear cable ends needed.

How do you use 4 gear cables per bike? (Or I guess you just use the same ones for brakes too?)

... Turns out I am now the proud owner of a hundred and fifty cable crimps all the same size. And that lot cost me $25 (postage and shipping cost more than the crimps.) I'll never use them up even if I live another hundred years.

If I wasn't so old, I'd start my own bike shop.

I ended up buying a bag of a 1000 because it was so ridiculously cheap compared to buying a bag of ten or even fifty it felt like a no brainer.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
Of all the cable crimps manufactured I wonder what percentage actually make it to the ends of cables.

I thought the coloured cable caps on eBay were for brakes and the gear cable. Don’t tell me there’s two different sizes for each? Never had a problem using what ever got sent on either.

The ferrules for the outers are different sizes, but as far as I can tell there's only one size ferrule for inners.

I have had injuries from frayed cable ends getting under my finger nail and similar. I like a nice crimp as a precaution.

My memory isn't what it used to be, but whose is?

I seem to recall that bike cable end caps are two different sizes, for gear cable housings and brake cable housings. I had both. Somehow, when it came to buying some new cable ends (not end caps), I transferred it so I thought they came in two different sizes for gear and brake cables. I ordered fifty of what I thought were gear cable ends. Then I ordered a hundred of what I thought were brake cable ends. Because of the difference in quantities, it seemed to be right. Turns out I am now the proud owner of a hundred and fifty cable crimps all the same size. And that lot cost me $25 (postage and shipping cost more than the crimps.) The outers are slightly different sized so the black (other colours may be available) housings for the cable to sit in frame cable guide thingies are two different sizes!
