Just reading a thread about how electric rear wheels can be a bit attritional on spokes.

I once had an old claud butler track bike from the ‘50s that had the spokes tied and soldered at the cross over. This was to stiffen the wheels.

Would the modern equivalent (cable ties) strengthen an electric rear wheel?

No.

How would it work?

Wheels are held together by lateral tension on the spokes, nothing else.

I've had a couple of pairs of tied and soldered wheels and they were fkin wikid?

Tying and soldering has been tested, and it doesn't make detectable any difference to the wheel stiffness at all.
(test/tie&solder/retest, and also otherwise identical wheels, as near as possible).

Tying and soldering gives a fractional increase in weight, added bling factor, and keeps broken spokes in place (mostly) so they don't tangle with other bits of your bike.
