Way, way back in the mists of time I spent ages (and wrecked a few tyre levers) trying to prove that a 26 by 1 1/4 inch tyre will go onto a 26 by 1 3/8 rim.
Turns out it won't.

I once cobbled a cassette together from three separate units to get the ratios I wanted. I spent an embarrassingly long time riding round with two 18t sprockets. I knew something felt funny but never bothered to check.

Interestingly ( ) cack-handed and maladroit are both old euphemisms for being left-handed. As a lefty myself, I find this amusing, beacause I am cack-handed and maladroit.
