When out for rides would you go to Cafes that specifically catered openly for cyclists or just go to ordinary everyday places ....are there any of these type of places..
I ask because in a town near where i stay it attracts a lot cyclists and there are always lots of bikes outside one or two of the cafes....just wondered if a cycling friendly cafe would appeal....i certainly would patronise such a place
would you?

I only really stop if I ride with others, so it needs to be a place that's happy with its customers being sweaty, smelly, dirty and grubby who'll chuck mittens, gloves, helmets etc onto the tables and want a water top up into the bargain!

I can understand how an upmarket tearoom may object!

So a more cycling/outdoors people specific caf may be better.

I'll sup and eat at any cafe that serves me. Usually this is confined to control points on Audaxes. Normally I head for pie shops.

I encountered an outstanding butcher's shop in Bridlington Old Town where the butcher made me an unsolicited mug of tea to go with the pies that I'd purchased. Above and beyond the call of duty.

The ambiance of the cafe is fairly important. One cycling friendly cafe changed ownership. They didn't want cyclists and the atmosphere was a severe deterrant. After quite a few years (decade+) it's now back in cycling friendly ownership thankfully.

I've often wondered whether the cycle cafe near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk is worth a visit. It's only an hour or so's ride from here so I must get over there one day.

Me too. I was planning to in the spring.

There used to be a brilliant café in Otley (Wharfedale, about 6 miles north-west of Leeds)
Sadly it's closed down now, but it was a Mecca for cyclists, walkers, ramblers, dog-walkers, motor-cyclists, etc....

Even in winter, at times, you'd have to queue for a table outside!!
Cheap too

Nowadays, if I'm out in the opposite direction; to the east of Leeds, Pontefract, FerryBridge, & returning from York, or Selby, I'll call in at Squires (just off 'old' A1)

Ostensibly, a bikers café, but it's always worth a visit, with generally a few decent bikes to look at
I often meet an old friend there, who left PGH, to go work at Leeds St James Hospital, she'll ride up on her 600, I get there under my own power

I've tried this one a couple of times. Granted, a limited menu in comparison to 'Squires', but very quiet - all you can generally hear Is bird-song!

Squires is OK, if a bit basic. Nearby there's a popular cafe at Sherburn Aero Club.

Not tried Birkin Fisheries despite riding past it a few times; it's on my list to visit. I tend to go past to the Seedlings Cafe just down the road (DN14 9PX).

I like the Oil Can Cafe near Holmfirth, Sid's Cafe in Holmfirth and Windmill Nurseries near Penistone; I'm usually to be found in one of them on a Saturday morning.

Not a Cafe, but essentially the same, plus local beer if it takes your fancy!

They were excellent for us. We asked if we could leave the bikes in the foyer area as we had forgotten a chain, and they let us (four of us) put our bikes in their warehouse at the back instead, and then use a staff only door connecting us directly to them. Very accommodating, and food and drink was good too!
