Call for Wimbledon to drop Range Rover Sponsorship

Good afternoon,

Are Range Rover owners not as much a persecuted group as cyclists?

Cyclists in lycra always block the roads riding three abreast, - Can never drive down that road as is full of mums dropping their little darlings off in their Chelsea Tractors.
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Should we oposse Lamborghini Countachs, terrible visibility, yeh but they're cool!

Headline 99% of cyclists involved in crashes are riding bicycles. Okay 1% for trikes and recumbents may be too high.

A few years back there was a petition to ban dihydrogen oxide on the basis that it was the major cause of drowning. It seems unlikely that everyone who signed saw the "joke".

Call to drop Range Rover sponsorship of Wimbledon as SUVs 82% more likely to kill children

Let's not even ask more likely that what or suggest that as the vast majority or SUVs are not even semi self driving they are incable of being resposible or not for any consequence.

Of course it is possible the headline may have been suggesting that SUVs express a preference in what they kill rather rather than comparing them to another kind of vehicle. XYZ SUVs have been shown to prefer the age group y to -y+10 whereas ABC prefers y2 to y2+5 especially those with the hair colour c.

To be fair, the headline is as bad as the rest of the article, just a mindless tirade against something that someone doesn't like.

Bye

A simple solution would be to just ban all cars over 5ft wide, they might actually fit on the roads a bit better.

Might be a problem for vans, lorries and buses, though.

But seriously, I am all in favour of all vehicles with a bonnet height greater than a small child to require a commercial vehicle license (>7.5 tonnes) rather than a regular driving license.

Great rant!

The article is a rational argument that we should not promote vehicles which are far more likely to kill children than normal cars.

How this is even controversial, let alone a "mindless tirade" is rather mysterious to me.

One of their recent print ads was extolling the virtues of their 2.3 tonne product for the school run.

Would be bold to link that with Wimbledon given what comes up if you do a google search for range rover wimbledon school.

I think one of the arguments has always been a smaller car, not a 2 tonne 4x4, might have stopped or being otherwise diverted by something it hit once the driver was no longer in control.

BTW There has been no action taken since the driver was arrested for, but not charged with, death by dangerous driving in January 2025.

I like my Range Rover driving up and down motorways for work, I feel much safer and it is far less tiring than driving a smaller vehicle.

I regularly drive the wife’s smaller car or even my daughter‘s Honda Jazz when local. When in the office I commute by bicycle.

You can’t attribute blame for the terrible accident when a Land Rover Defender drove into a school on the manufacturer, if you did there would be no cars on the road.

Excluding the hard case ( which make bad laws)
And polls which are obvs bias towards those who feel threatened -parents...

It's obvious that a RR, Porsche, Cayenne, X5 xxx Q7 etc is going to hurt more than a super mini!
