Anyone know of any nice holiday locations in Inverness?

Myself, Lady Levad and The Boy Levad are wishing to trek up there on the Sleeper next February so we are looking for a nice family friendly place. Either self catering or full board.

It has to be in Inverness as we will only have shank's pony for transport.

calling all Scots....lol
You might be surprised how many Scots have never been north of Perth, never mind Inverness.

I suppose it depends how much you want to spend, but if you google holiday accomm in Inverness you will see there are several riverside hotels (watch the bears on the icebergs drifting downstream from your breakfast table in Feb.)which I would suggest are in a scenic location and within easy walking distance of centre, and rail and bus stations.

I was joking about the bears;)

Mrs Noodley and I usually stay in the Palace Hotel if we are in Inverness - ask for a river view room.

It depends on why you want to go to Inverness I guess.

If you want to spend the time in the town I would say don't go to Inverness! It's just not that great. Inverness's main raison d'etre is that it's the only show in town. There are no other big towns in any direction for miles so it's effectively a market town for the highlands and it looks pretty much like any big town, with supermarkets and chain stores, but interspersed with tacky tourist shops. If you want a nice Scottish town to pad around St Andrews would be my first choice. Nice town, nice beach.

And if you want to get out into the country, I wouldn't go to Inverness! ;0) The scenery on the west coast is much better than the east, in my opinion. But if you're staying in Inverness and walking everywhere you're not going to see much countryside anyway as the town's too big.

I fancy the train journey up to Inverness myself but for the journey, not for the destination.

Mr Pig's stuff

Although I would agree that Inverness is not the most scenic of places there are a huge number of things to do or see, all within easy access.

And Inverness is a city not a town

Actually this thread reminds me that I promised Mrs Noodley we would spend a week in Inverness next year....but we'll be going for self catering.

Yep, Inverness is a nice little city, lots to do. I think Mrs. Crackle and the kids stayed in some boutique hotel last time they were there. I won't get the name as it was a special, quite expensive, treat and they got the sleeper up. Muggins here got the late drop off and early pick-up at Crewe.

It's all down to taste I guess. For me I want to go north to get away from everything and Inverness just feels like you brought everything with you! Traffic, industrial estates and chain stores, it could be anywhere.
