Quite fancy driving a bus; all that self loading freight appeals! But then again, pallets can't moan about my driving, the weather, the price of bread, etc..
Oh and the passenger " freight " will moan, trust me.
What if you hold a PCV AND HGV licence? Do you have to do separate CPCs for each category?
yes the driver cpc covers both licences.

Are all these modules classroom based? I did my Cat C a few years ago with the army and I am now a reserve. The military are exempt from the CPC so no information is offered to us on it. We do have our own driver training but it is not transferable to civilian driving.

Yup. I'd booked mine but it turned out the company only ran the tacho module on Saturday's, and there was no way I was sitting through 35 hours of the same training on one subject, (even though it would have still been valid!).

So today I've booked with another company and will be doing 5 different modules with them, and the best part is I've saved £20 in the process and they provide refreshments and some dinner as well :mrpig:^_^

The courses I'm doing are;

03/05/2014 Working & Driving

17/05/2014 Health & Safety, Conflict Resolution

31/05/2014 Fuel Efficient Driving, Drivers Health & Wellbeing

21/06/2014 The Professional Driver

1 more course TBC

Also it states, "This is not a pass or fail course", so that's good as I hate doing classroom based tests.

27 years on the road, and now a freelance that really was a bitter pill to swallow forking out 350 large and looking through the window, whilst being 'taught'.Just grin and bear it. On the plus side I may get more work.

I got my DCPC at my previous company a couple of years ago. As I was a transport manager I wasn't entitled to sit the modules during work time so I went in during days off, with the blessing of the boss, and sat in with the drivers taking theirs. It was worth doing only in as much as without it I might as well throw my HGV licence in the bin.
Having passed my Class 1 in 1980 it didn't really teach me much that I hadn't learned the hard way already. When I packed up the management side of things and went back driving, (more money, less stress!) my new company put me through two modules before they believed me that they wouldn't count towards my next 5 year entitlement.
Therefore, I have sat 7 x 7 hour modules, not 5..... <yawn>
My next 7 hours of boredom starts in September.

And a good supply of tea and biscuits

So I've pretty much just spent 7 hours watching a variety of anti drink/drug driving videos from Northern Ireland, Australia and the UK, so I now feel like kicking the cat just to lighten my mood*:headshake:

The subject of cyclists cropped up as well, but this was met by the instructor with, "cyclists should all be effing banned from the road" Not what I expected from someone in his position TBH:headshake:

I tried to fight the good fight but it was clear that middle ground was not going to be found, so I left it by pointing out that although not all cyclists do obey the rules of the road, certainly neither do all motorists, this seemed to get the instructor to accept he was on a hiding to nothing so he drew a line and moved on.

So coupled with my admitting a fondness to using those bedeviled two wheeled contraptions, plus my admittance that I don't actually consume alcohol, (and for the record I don't like football either!!!), I was definitely left feeling like that odd guy out today!

Anyhoo, certificate numero uno in hand and only 4 more to go, (for now at least).

Conclusion: sadly having to admit that it is indeed 7 hours of my life I will never get back, and a looming doom that the next 28 hours will just be more of the same:thumbsdown:

I also admitted to having previously been a member of the Greater Manchester Police force today, and that went down like a lead balloon as well I can tell you.

So that makes me a cycling, non-drinking, football hating, ex-copper wagon driver

I thought I was going to be pushed in a corner and
