Following the seemingly untreatable death of Windows Vista on my 10 year old pc I was recommended Lubuntu. I have downloaded it and now my pc works again. I have only had an hour or two with it and will not see it again until Wednesday. It looks and feels quite different to windows and will take some getting used to.

What I am after is advice, tips and resources to help my acquaintance with Lubutu from those who know. This is my first experience with anything Linux.

Cheers.

ETA I don't know which version I have until I can check on Wednesday so please bear that in mind.

One question I have, at present I am running it off a boot disc, what steps do I need to take to install it on the PC so as to allow me to select either Lubuntu or windows to launch?

Doesn't it give you the option of installing it on your hard drive? If so, just do it, unless there are files on your hard drive you want to retrieve. If you do want to keep Windows, when you click on the installation icon to start the process, it will probably detect that there is Windows on there and give you the choice of either overwriting it or installing Lubuntu on a separate partition. If you choose to install on a separate partition, it may give you the option to allocate certain areas of disk space to each operating system, but it is probably just as well to go with the defaults. Lubuntu is good for bringing old PCs back to life. I used to use it on my twelve year old PC when most other versions of Linux would not work.
