came off the bike tonight, on mud. good old farmers mud.

the road was so bad that a car had gone off into the ditch. two other cars had stopped to help, one on each side of the road causing a nice chicane effect

yeah i saw the hazards, and my attention was on the car in the ditch as i rode past. next thing i know im on the floor.

some guy comes up and says " there's mud everywhere mate, i just lost my car in the ditch". no sh1t

now i really sympathise with the guy who crashed his car, and its nice of people to stop and help, but what kid of people park in such a way as to cause a chicane on a very muddy road. i politely pointed out that they may want to move their cars before there was another "incident!

so Ive been down the hospital and i've got a sprained wrist and a few cuts and bruises. only light damage to the bike.

my helmet took a bit of a knock and is slightly compressed on one side. no doubt saved me from a good split head, so gets your lids on people.

at the end of the day you have to take the occasional knock on a bike, but im now in pain and out of pocket to the tune of a new helmet...

good Samaritans my arse

"Farmer will be in bother. "

It's a nice thought but around these parts it happens all the time. ( Mud all over the road that is ) and nothing ever seems to get done about it.
September time one local farmer pulled out of his field and drove along a cycle path next to a bypass for 200 yds until joining the road. The large clumps of mud that he left behind are still all over the path, I had hoped that they would be washed away by the rain but its been too dry and in the frost they are like half set bricks everywhere.
Dont get me started on the times they cut the hedge and dont remove the thorn clippings :¬(((

Farmers and mud - AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Most couldn't care less, the odd few may put out a Mud-on-Road sign and once, just once, I went past one actually cleaning the mud off the highway.

They also, at the appropriate time of year, like to dump mounds of corn-seed etc right on the cycling-line around corners.

OMFG you've done it now!!!!!

Seriously though I'm glad that your ok but I can't help wondering if slowing down for the chicane may actually have saved you from more serious injury.

Commiserations, glad you had a lid on, it sounds like it saved you from a potential serious injury. You'll soon get over being pissed off and a sprained wrist; a cracked skull would have been a different matter. Hope you get well soon.

yeah, your not wrong mark. but then if the "chicane" wasn't there i may have just sailed past no problem ???

i wasn't exactly pushing it. the thing was, it wasn't frosty/icy and i had no real reason to believe the road was covered in mud and my lights didn't really illuminate it much. i lesson learnt i think.

guess i was rubber necking at the car in the ditch as well. i was shocked at how fast i went down, and im sure my head would have hit the road with or without helmet. I'm not looking to start another helmet debate but it certainly saved me from a good thump.

not really blaming the farmer or anyone else for that matter, just an unfortunate set of circumstances. but people do need to consider the dangers of "stopping to help", it can make a bad situation worse

Yes for sure. I was once driving in heavy snow and ice. Came round a corner to find a car upside down in a ditch with a woman and kids inside. I just stopped where I was and went to get them out. While doing that I heard a "BANG!"

Another car had run right into the back of my stationary car. The driver said "What were you doing, parking in the middle of the road f*ckin idiot"

He had a point
