Have got hold of a early 50's one is there any way of accurate dating it has toothless pulleys with ball bearing races and all works fine the old chap who gave it to me said 1953 he is 86 years old and still rides nearly 60 miles a week hope I'm as active at his age he is in the process of building a 70's Peugeot as a run about

Velobase shows some examples - probably a model 1012/1?

Very early examples had the cable adjuster built into the mech, where the cable enters the device. Show us a picture.

I use one of these mechs on my Carlton Flyer, I have toothed Campag wheels added to it. It shifts silently, smoothly and without fault. They are very well made mechanisms.
