My partner and I are planning to some of your original route - Wisbech to Hull and beyond at the end of August. We're hoping to cycle from the Mildenhall cycle rally to the Camping and Caravan Club National Feast of Lanterns in Pickering the following week. It has the advantage of being fairly flat and pretty well mapped. Wherever you go in England there are pretty villages and small towns, so even if the scenery isn't much, there are nice stopping points.

If you do go through Winslow, stop at the Indian restaurant there, it's wonderful. There is also another lovely restaurant around the corner from that, where I had dinner when I passed through there on tour last year.
