I saw a Christmas tree grower on TV dipping the cut ends in some jollop to stop them re-growing.
Really? Did the grower actually say this? The chances of a Christmas tree producing new roots are close to zero. From the moment a tree is cut, mid November probably, it's dieing.

Possibly the intention was to prevent sap loss and sticky residues but I doubt any grower would bother.
