Upon return after a night out from my mates last week, we cracked open the posh bottle of Asda vodka - or what we left of it. Anyway, somewhere in the mix, the bottle was spilt and a significant amount of vodka spilt into the goldfish bowl.

Did those goldfish have a near death experience or did we give them a friggin good night?

Quite possibly the alcohol is in the tank still and it could be affecting the fish. Unlike with us we can remove it from our environment it will just sit there until the fish acts like a natural filter. Not in a good way either gievn its size.

I'd change the water myself.

You really are a very irresponsible fellow. I seem to recall you were willing to subject one of these poor creatures to the care of a secret santa friend.

The least you can do next time is to add some tonic and a slice.

Surely they are just having a stag week?

The ethanol will evaporate quite quickly, especially if there's a pump bubbling air through the water.

Err - how could you tell if the Goldfish WAS drunk?

Reminds me of that old joke - the one where he falls into the barrel of whiskey where he drowned - but not before getting out several times to get to the loo.

Ants have a very civilized attitude towards booze. John Lubbock a noted naturalist who lived in the 18[sup]th[/sup] century completed an experiment to study the intoxicated behavior of ants. He was amazed to note that drunken nest mates were picked up by fellow ants and carried back to the nest, while drunken strangers were thrown in a ditch.

Seems ants and humans aren't so different
