Is that what its called?Penny Lane? It does neither, just joins a fast dual carriageway (A556). I'd run across, rather than risk joining the road and going round the roundabout.
Thanks again.

I do dislike the A50.........its the "lanes" I want.Crossing the A54 between mile markers 67 and 68 isnt really a road, it deteriorates to a track but is just about passable on a road bike, very pretty it is too....

I'd also avoid the chunks of A50 and get back into the lanes, but its not that bad, just from an enjoyment POV. Other than that, looks good!
Is there an alternative "hilliest route finder"?
I'd second this comment or...........Penny Lane? It does neither, just joins a fast dual carriageway (A556). I'd run across, rather than risk joining the road and going round the roundabout.
That is excellent..........many thanks.You're a lazy so-and-so, @Dave7

Try these: 100km and 100 miles give or take. I've assumed that you are starting AND finishing at Warburton Bridge, and that Antrobus was 'on your way home'.

Cross the A556 a mile NE on Birches Lane. There's a pedestrian crossing there which makes it much safer
Interesting google linkFor a given value of pedestrian crossing https://goo.gl/maps/kpSLi5kde422
I've ridden this road and crossed it, its essentially a motorway without a hard shoulder, I only attempt to cross here when its so late at night its early. I try and avoid riding on it for even very short sections. I frequently use the A50 along all its length from Warrington to Stoke, regularly use the A49, A54 and A6 for long stretches, the A556 scares the **** out of me. YMMV.

A couple of choices neither of which are great.
From Plumley ride to the Smoker pub on the 556. At the I get off my bike, get on to the pavement and use the traffic lights to cross the road on foot. You can then go along the pavement west of the 556 going south west for 300 yards and then turn right onto a lane that will take you into Higher Winchcam
Or from Knunsford the road over Taberly Hill takes you to the 556 just south of junction 19 on the M6. This is not a great place to cross and if you didn't fancy the Birches Lane crossing then don't even look at this one!!
When are you thinking of doing the ride?
I use that crossing a lot. It also has the advantage that bugger all cars use the adjoining roads too.
Bike, traversing west to east. You clearly can't do that in a car.Do you mean you use that crossing c/w bike or on the main road by car ?
