how is this a vendetta? all i'm asking for is the same courtesy i'm showing other people take a look at the angling forums their attitude is fishermen should be here cyclists shouldn't whose actually refusing to compromise? and btw was someone on here that sugested i talk to anglers i'm usually just polite and carry on. seems to me the perfect people to try and help come to a compromise are the cyclists who fish regulary and it is the LOCAL COUNCILS who are promoting canal paths as a method of cycling perhaps its upto them to police the towpaths

think i need to find out if they need a licence and also someone to go and check if they have one....might be less of them about then
Seems courteous to me

A meaningless point without example. Even then a few forum posts doesn't represent a majority.

What is there to compromise? You have an entire length of path(whatever length it may be) to use(cycle on) and have to ride round or carry your bike over a very small part of that( a few feet?) around a few anglers.

If you want compromise you need to learn to share

I wonder what the dog walkers and families think about your cycling there. Maybe they're on the 'net somewhere too.

and it is the LOCAL COUNCILS who are promoting canal paths as a method of cycling perhaps its upto them to police the towpaths
How do you know they don't already and find everything in order?

well answer is simple isn't it make cyclists apply for a licence which they pay for which non of us would mind if it helps and would give the council a way of tracking cyclists who breach rules and why shouldn't this apply to road cyclists as well? use the money collected to pay someone to patrol cyclepath and ask anglers to keep towpath clear as much as possible, impose a "safe speed" limit on towpaths that already applies to boats doesn't it? and finally make heavy fishing stretches of canal path cycle free then if there is a breach of rules then local councils can act against the individual concerned. It now occurs to me cyclists dont have any way off identifying theirselves cars have tax discs why shouldn't we. And as for families i Always either slow to a walking pace to pass families with kids and walkers and make a point of making sure they know i'm behind them and am Always coutrious and Polite!

No what i'm saying is if anglers object to cyclists as they are not licenced then perhaps thats the way to go and the only way to employ someone to patrol canal banks would be to raise the money somewhere else, hence the licences but no solutuion will ever please anyone will it

The basis of your post is based on an "if"? What in the actual feck?

So you want cyclists to pay for someone to patrol the banks - who would in turn likely remove unlicensed anglers also?? (But what about those who are?)

What about dog walkers and families? Want to license them too so your newly employed riverbank hitler can remove them also?

Why do we need to licence (and extort money from) cyclists, just to finance someone to try and enfore what should (on both parties) be a simple courtesy?

Glad I don't ride where you ride.

My heart's fit to explode as it is from riding let alone getting stressed over nack all....

now picking faults in my argument yet offering nothing else as a solution, occurs to me no one is willing to do anything to improve either groups enjoyment of their hobbies so this is probably how it will stay on one hand anglers on other cyclists both groups will always have people on either side that are not willing to change so lets just call it a stalemate and leave it at that,we all know no new rulings on either side will ever happen due to the closed mindedness of both groups, and as for licencing wasn't just referring to towpaths an identity scheme is a good idea but wont happen and we all know why

The solution is simple. Share

Everything else you've said is just a distraction from that.

Small boy in tears on tow-path...
"Me mate's fallen in the canal!"
Passing cyclist, looking frantically into the water and seeing nobody around , asks, "What?? How did that happen?"
Small boy, "It fell out me sandwich..."

Perhaps we just need to be more tolerant and find time to talk to people and take things a bit slower.

Do you not realise how important MY journey is, and how much of a hurry I am in - YOU'RE in my way, and YOU'RE slowing ME down......

Now.....where have we heard that before?

One fisherman once complained bitterly to me about my running around a lake! He said it wasn't too much of a problem for fishermen on a canal but around a lake, a runner's stride pattern alerted the fish there was something happening on the bank so they'd stay away from that area requiring the use of a longer pole in order to rip them out of the water!

Oh, and something else; has anyone ever seen a fisherWOMAN? I think most women are probably much too sensible to spend whole days staring at water.
