These athletes are just built differently, so efficient, smooth and graceful.
If you watch him cross the line he’s not even sweating.
I’m a soaking mess after a 30min 5km.

It appears to be the first ever race in which first, second, and third places all beat the standing world record. As they were discussing on the radio this morning, it does make you wonder how much benefit they're getting from the high tech shoes with springy carbon fibre soles.

I couldn't do 13mph on a bike, never mind on foot. I had a regular 39 mile training ride that I wanted to do in 3 hours, but I never managed it.

what about the egg and spoon race
No problem. I won that by a country mile.

There was an episode of the " Sliced Bread " podcast where among other things the benefit of the new shoe tech was discussed. Not sure exactly but the figure was about 2% iirc. ( the chap on the program was one of the top exercise physiologists from Loughborough University.
Of course it was the soes ( and the regular 125 miles per week of training, plus the gym work and the diet 😁 )

I can run 100m in 17 sec if I give it everything, sadly I can't run and ride at the same time. 🤭. Puns aside anyone that can do a marathon is hardcore in my opinion. The speed the pro,s are doing it at nowadays is unreal and shows epic dedication and training.

What if I bought shoes with a 26 mile thick sole?

I've had rides of 26 miles when I've averaged less than 13mph 😂.
Admittedly very hilly ones but to run at that pace for slightly less than 2 hours is incredible. Have to though feel for the guy in 2nd place who also went sub 2 hours but barely mentioned.

On this trip back here, met someone from my year at school, who I hadn't seen for around 40 years.
He struggled to remember who I was, and I let him sweat a while trying to recall.
Eventually I reminded him that in the cross country 'run' we were always the stragglers who walked in last, and got a boll telling off by the games teacher. Finally he remembered, and by chance I met him again that same week in another pub.

My running capabilities never improved since, but who cares, I've got plenty of bikes to get around on :okay:

You could have done your bit by naming the person who came second. 😉
