Yes I can. I can also have a conversation with someone while typing about a different subject. My only claim to fame unfortunately.

Ooo, I can do that one too and I get some very weird looks whilst doing it. Especially when I "know" that I've made a mistake in typing and start using the back-space to delete stuff.

Of course and using the correct fingers - unlike Mr Summerdays who almost can but does it with just 2 fingers. My mum paid a friend of hers to teach me to type one summer, and its been very useful.

Isn't that great! I've had people come over to my screen to see what I'm doing and how accurate I am while I'm talking and back-spacing etc.

What's your speed Norm? Do you know? It's even freakier when you type as fast as you speak!

generally yes unless using a small keyboard like on a netbook or mobile phone

Yep, I too do the chat to people while carrying on typing thing, my husband in particular gets really freaked out by it and tells me not to answer until I've finished the sentence I'm typing!

I'm usually told that I am too fast... but that's a different thread.

I can type as fast as most can speak, I can take notes in meetings, concentrating on what is going on and looking at the speaker at the same time as typing things up. I've never actually timed myself, so I'm not sure what my speed is.

I do use all the correct fingers on my left hand but I only use the middle finger on my right hand, which is just weird.

That is definitely weird but does command more respect if you can keep up with what people are saying and your middle finger knows the distance to move around for typing. Kudos!
