Hey everyone.

I’m in the market for a new road bike. I don’t race, just do casual rides (14mph average over 20-30mlies).

Ive been considering the Cannondale Synapse 2 which looks like a good all rounder but also saw the Orro Gold Evo 7200-Hydro which might be racier but I like the styling.

Has anyone got any advice on these two bikes? Or a different bike suggestion altogether? My budget is up to £2,000.

Thank you 😊

Buy the one that has the best clearance (bigger tyre) roads in the UK can be dire in places.

That would be the Synapse 2…the Orro has 28 tyres…while the Synapse can do up to 32 I believe. Perhaps the tyre size is a good way to decide!

I'd get the orro with the carbon frame.

A better match would be a synapse or supersix carbon.

Would you get the Orro because of the better frame? Does the frame material make a big difference (carbon vs aluminium alloy) when just riding for casual rides…so not racing?

Yes I would.

Carbon feels more alive than alu.
Alu is good but feels dead in comparison...

If wanting alu you can get one for £750.
Carbon for £1500..

Or a racier Trek if you can push budget?

Whereabouts do you live, what shops can you access easily (those two are in SW London)

I like in Hampshire. I was looking at buying via the tredz website. Thanks for the bike recommendations I’ll have a look.

Thanks @Jameshow. I’ll have a look for Carbon frame options. It’s mostly budget dictating the choice really. Not sure I’ve seen many Carbon for £1500…though maybe the brands I’m looking at. I like the Cannondale bikes visually which is drawing me to that brand. Are there any brands you would recommend?

This one is carbon. https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Cannondale/Synapse-Carbon-4-Disc-Road-Bike-2023/X3IH
BUT I'd check carefully what BB they use, carbon frames + press fit can be a creaky squeaky world of pain if unlucky!!

Not sure what size you need, but Primera in Bournemouth have and might be closer than Sigma

Or 99 Bikes in Winchester, they'd need a call though as something weird with website pricing!

Thanks so much!! Do you know whether Orro bikes are any good? They seem like a newer brand than Cannondale? The spec of the Orro Gold Evo vs the Cannondale Synapse 4…the Orro is 22 speed vs the 20 speed Cannondale. Also the Orro has Shimano 105 brakes and shifters while the Cannondale has Shimano Tiagra brakes and shifters. I just need to see whether the Orro can be fitted with larger tyres (it comes with 28mm Continentals).

I wouldn't buy online unless you have to, spending 2k you really need to try them out and have a good relationship with an LBS if possible to deal with any post purchase niggles

There are only a handful of bike shops near me and even less which sell the bikes I’m looking at so might need to go online…though of course can take a bike to an independent shop once I have it for service etc.

As per above, there's not much to choose between brands in reality.

Better to choose a good shop close by and the most appropriate bike they stock rather than worry too much about a particular brand IMO - unless there's something absolutely unique about your requirements.
