Were you up a tall building? I seem to remember that the River Plate was so wide at that point that you couldn't see the opposite shore from ground level. But maybe it was a hazy day.

I reckon you should be able to see Argentine territory from Asunción in Paraguay, but I haven't been there to test the theory.
You could see it from the ferry port. IIRC it was very early in the morning.

It's not possible to see anything other than Australia from Australia, because it's not only so damn big, it's also pretty isolated. The shortest possible distance to another country is (I think) the 150km or so from the northern tip of Queensland to Papua New Guinea.

Its a heck of a distance Buenos Aires to Montevideo but you almost certainly can see Uruguay.
Early on in this thread I thought if id seen Argentina from Montevideo but no, its far too far. From Carmelo and Neuva Palmira, Uruguay, further up the River..you can see Argentina.
