Prompted by comments on another thread, and in no way cycling related. What's your car history, or even bike history?
I started as a Ford man, 1979 Mk I Fiesta 1.1 L (Reginald) finished in finest beige. Ziebarted from new it never rusted and cost me £250. Subsequently handed on to my younger brother, then his now wife. Scrapped as it became not cost effective to repair mechanically, still had no rust. Followed this with a 1982 Sierra, 3 door 1.6 (Theobald)which had been played with. Very low, very loud and a downright handful in the wet. That went in favour of comfort, a 1992 Sierra 1.8 LX 5 door hatch (Jaws), a lovely car sold only for my then must have .
Cue the change, and I went all Swedish. A 1998 Volvo V70 2.5 (Swampy), super wagon and the most comfortable car I have owned. Changed this for a 2005 XC90 Ocean Race (Harvey) which was going to be a long term car, but a house move resulted in another change only 18 months later. Another Volvo, this time a Phase 2 2002 V70 (Yoda), comfy but the auto-box was a dog and I was glad to be rid of it in 2011, where I found myself in a job with a car allowance, so I bought my first brand new car, a Volvo XC90 (Rocky). I bought Rocky as I didn't think of anything else, being forced to sell the first one which I loved made the decision easy. As a family car they are stunningly practical, but cost the earth to run. An opportunity to change came about early this year, and I went all sensible, ending up with a Honda Civic Tourer (Sylvester). I miss the little Volvo things, but I don't miss the fuel bills.

Do other people give their cars names too??

Bikes is another story, perhaps after dinner..

Hmmm.
First car, age 22, was a Volvo 360 GLT
Then a Volvo estate (don't remember the model)
The kids came along (rapidly!) and we had 2 new successive Nissan Serena's (horrible things but served a purpose)

I got divorced and bought a Ford transit Tourneo to lug all the kids about...15, 12, 5, 4 and a newborn.
Landrover Defender 90 LWB
Ford Mondeo estate
Just sold our huge Mitsubishi Delica and now looking for something VW Golf sized or smaller!

Triumph Herald - lovely car till the wheel fell off. (Actually it was still lovely...just a bit impractical, what with only the three wheels.)
Ford Escort - like a baked bean can, but fun to drive till the engine seized up.
VW Beetle (mother's) - horrible car: loud, heavy, crude...shifting gear was like hauling a parking meter around.
VW Scirroco - lovely, fast, smooth, comfortable - but unreliable and didn't last long.
Peugeot 504 cabriolet - gorgeous car, lasted half of its maiden voyage down to Cornwall, engine seized, deid. *sob*
Mk1 Golf cab - every bit as good as they say. Black. Loved it to bits. Bairns forced sale.
Golf GL estate - fantastic workhorse, swallows any luggage, surprisingly fun to drive, totally reliable.

I may have a touch of aspergers; I can remember most of the registration numbers of my cars/bikes over the years (even those of my parents when I was younger)....

Since I started on 2 wheels, here they are first:
Suzuki GS125 (LHS47Y) Jan 1983 - June 1983.
Suzuki GSX400F (DGG358X) June 1983 - ???
Honda CBX550F (KGE550Y) 1984/85
Honda CBX750F2 (B490ESJ) Dec 85 to April 86.
Yamaha Diversion 600 (K311NSL) 1995/98
Yamaha Diversion 900 (P654TUS) 98/2001
Yamaha Diversion 900 (R347PCW) 2001/05
Yamaha Fazer 600 (S???NRA) 2005 to 2011
Honda CBF 600F (SG54***) 2011 to present.

Cars:
Vauxhall Astra (NGG184Y) 1986/87
Vauxhall Astra (B976CGA) 1987
Vauxhall Cavalier SRi (A???UNS) 1987/89
Vauxhall Nova (D??????) 1989/90
Cavalier 1600 (D318LSJ) 1990/91
Cavalier SRi (D553RHS) 1991/93
VW Golf GTi (G???RNS) 1993/94
VW Golf GTi (H???DGG) 1994/2000
VW Golf 1600 (S254USU) 2000/2003
VW Polo (SG03UVL) 2003
VW Bora (SH51VAJ) 2003/05
VW Golf Diesel (SE03LNJ) 2006/09
Toyota Corolla 1600 (SB06***) 2009 to present.

Best car? The second Golf GTi. 1800cc 8 valve version. Utterly reliable, very quick and reasonably economical.
Worst car? They have all been pretty good TBH, some better than others. Possibly the other Golf GTi though; more down to having been ill treated by the previous owner, and it takes some effort to ill treat a Golf GTi!

Gobsmacking really...a car that lasted only four years. But it was all too common back then. My beloved Triumph Herald had had to have both doors replaced due to crippling rust, and despite having a new floor panel welded in at about 15 years, you could still see the road thru' your feet, and when you drove in heavy rain, your feet got wet. Ar - them'r days...

4 years old and it died from rust?
I remember my brother buying a new Alfasud in 1978; it was his pride and joy and was well looked after. In 1982 he had to strip it down to the shell to treat the rust and respray the whole car. It lasted a few more years before it died. They don't make them like they used to. Thankfully.

Edit. Must. Type. Faster!

My first car was a Herald, cost £50 and a Panasonic Way, the underside was made of solid rust. When you lifted the bonnet (whole front end of the car) you could get in and walk around the engine. It was lovely and rubbish.

I bought it when it was two years old, got it through the 1st MOT by the time the 2nd MOT was due, the floor pan had rusted through and the rear suspension was in danger of collapsing at the point where the rear struts bolted onto the body work. I sold it as a MOT failure for spares. £ 250.
