Cycling is just the new line in
boll#cks by which they attempt to sell a motoring dream that doesn't actually exist.
There is another implication to bike in cars: are bikes only supposed to be ridden in parks, off road or quiet country roads?
This morning I went to the open day of a new cycling/walking/climbing park, build on former wasteland with the Commonwealth legacy money.
All well and good, they are still building, the actual opening won't be until early 2016. Lots of activities for kids ... but, there is no safe way for the local kids to reach the venue, it is surrounded by busy roads.
Plenty of parking though, I did see several families unloading bikes from their capacious family cars.
There will eventually be a segregated path to it, at great expense, apparently just the feasibility report commissioned by our local active travel/ community wellbeing project costs in excess of 125,000 pounds.
The safe cycling way in for kids and beginner cyclist was clearly an afterthought: I spoke to the project manager, she was not aware of the problem!
To recap: let aside the specs of the car, do you all think the future (according to the motor industry customer, keeping in mind that cars is what mainly kills cyclist) will bring motorist being more patient/ alert to cyclist or will make things worse, as the mamil should really put his bike in his car, ride it to Mt Ventoux not in the city centre.
I am thinking advertising is a powerful tool, other car makers will jump on the band wagon of the cycle friendly car: better for us or worse?
