... not with me, but with a bus.

Last night a bus is half-in a stop and half on the road as usual. Behind sits Mr/Mrs Stupid in his/her car, then a bike, another car and me. Bus indicates to pull out but doesn't move. Car behind the bus pulls out. Load bang. Car drives off up the road. Driver gets out to survey the damage on the corner of his bus. Couldn't see much but hopefully the car has a better reminder so they might think a bit more next time.

I'm not suprised. The number of times I have seen a bus pulling out and theres 2-3 cars whipping around it to get to a red light

Well I did have a little titter - but wasn't sure if that was strictly the right thing to do.

The funny thing is that the road in question is quiet, lots of room and nothing coming in the opposite direction. So I guess it was the usual "I must get in front mentality" without engaging brain.

Shame you didnt have a helmet cam... that bus driver would have been cyclist's friend for life.

No need to worry about the bus.

The bus company's insurance will take a sample of the car's paint off the side of the bus. The insurance company will post a note to all the other insurance companies.

When a car of same colour makes a claim, BINGO.

The car driver's insurance company will invalidate his cover for "Failing to stop"; and the police will be brought in.

Is that really true?

Bus companies can't get insurance apparently(although First will have an incredibly good legal team) - most buses are fully CCTV'd up - and the driver will be under strict instructions to get the reg just in case.

The Highway Code is very clear on this:

286

If you are involved in a collision which causes damage or injury to any other person, vehicle, animal or property, you MUST

* stop
* give your own and the vehicle owner’s name and address, and the registration number of the vehicle, to anyone having reasonable grounds for requiring them
* if you do not give your name and address at the time of the collision, report it to the police as soon as reasonably practicable, and in any case within 24 hours

[Law RTA 1988 sect 170]
287

If another person is injured and you do not produce your insurance certificate at the time of the crash to a police officer or to anyone having reasonable grounds to request it, you MUST

* report it to the police as soon as possible and in any case within 24 hours
* produce your insurance certificate for the police within seven days

[Law RTA 1988 sect 170]

Chances are the bus will have the car reg on CCTV...
