Get round a load of bike shops and try a load of bikes out if you're spending that sort of money
I did that and a lot of bikes I liked the sound of on paper didn't actually 'fit' me very well in practice including the Defy range which are widely recommended
To my shame when I found my perfect bike I bought online as I found it £300 cheaper than a lbs could do it for which was too much a difference to ignore
