I've just fitted a carbon seat post in a steel frame too, so far without problems, but I note you say "carbon-greased". I just used ordinary grease on mine - have I done something stupid? Help!

A bit of heat applied to the steel seat tube should expand it sufficiently- i'd start off with a hairdryer in a warm room preferably with another person to twist the seat as you are warming the tube..

Doh! Now I've done it myself.

I took a new seatpost, installed the saddle loosely, and then pushed the (pre lightly carbon-greased) post down into the frame. I sat on it to get a rough idea of size and now it's stuck fast. It will move minutely if I tighten the saddle and wrench it from side to side. What's the best approach to get it out? I've had a look at Sheldon, but he's not so specific about carbon. I'd prefer not to have to saw it.

Might it not be FUBAR anyway? Would a carbon post cope with what you describe as being "wrenched" from side to side??
