I'd question the efficacy of attempting to repair that crack with a weld (depending on wall thickness / material / welder competency); IMO that warrants a replacement stay which is probably going to cost more than the frame is worth.

Since you don't plan on keeping it and seem to be satisfied with the purchase, worth punting it on for a nominal sum with full disclosure so that the new owner can sort it as they see fit..?

I don't think you can weld 531 which is why they went to 525 /725 steels which are weldable irrc.

Try Ellis Briggs in Shipley?

A repair is a new stay - if too much £, bin it. Weld it, erm no.

agree with this, too much metal missing to feel confident in a repair, unless its a sleeve which would look a bit duff & ugly and potentially cause chainstay clearance issues anyway. So new stay and respray, which doesn't sound economically viable. So unless its a labour of love, I'd strip the parts and move on

Nor are Ellis Briggs now. But both pass such work onto local frame builders.

Really I did t know that last time I was in the shop he had a frame I. Build and offered frame building courses.
