So I've ditched my Spa saddle from the commuter and so need one of these QR things. It comes with a bit of plastic and some cable ties to connect the bag to the QR.

My question is simple, should I use said plastic thing or stick with using the leather straps I've used for years. I appreciate it means putting the bag onto the bike will take longer but I'll still have a quicker disconnect or is the plastic thing better than it looks?

The problem I've had with mine is that the lever bits on the qr have a tendency to fall out, and then you're likely to lose the spring and the bolt as well. This has happened twice now. They've solved the problem on the newer ones by making them threaded rather than push-fit so it's worth checking to see which type you have and just keeping an eye on them in case they work loose. A dab of threadlock is a good idea.

Margaret was of course very helpful in providing spares.:okay:

Go for the plastic thing. It works just fine.
I have many bags and many bikes so I don't use the plastic bit any more, but if it were 1 bag for 1 bike I certainlywould (I used it for a while and it was fab).
Nowadays I've even abandoned the leather straps in favour of wide re-useable tie-wraps.

I ditched the plastic and used the leather straps. Reason: if you unclip the bag and carry it off the bike with a shoulder strap - main reason i got the qr - the plassy thing digs into you and is really uncomfortable.

Oh and to add, in my experience it didn't take longer to take the bag off/put it on because you don't have to unbuckle and the leather straps (usually) retain their loopiness outside of the bag if you get what I mean.

Thanks all. Need to check if I've got push fit levers. Will be carrying bag further soon so don't fancy the thing digging into me so will stick with the leather loops for now

Ok I tried keeping with the leather straps but mine are old and don't really stay as loops anymore so I've gone for the plastic thingy. So far ok but it obviously takes practice to attach quickly but I'll get there
