This will be an absolutely stupid question me thinks but i will ask it anyway. I have been using a roof mounted rack for quite awhile and mount the bike above the offside to avoid low branches to the nearside. I will be carrying two bikes for the first time at the weekend and was wondering if when carry more than one bike do you tend to keep both bikes as far over to the offside as possible or do you try to keep them evenly spaced on either side of the roof?

Evenly spaced for me. Lorrys do a good job of keeping low branches trimmed back, so they's no need to worry (touch wood)

I think that's what junkie_ball is trying to avoid

Exactly trying to avoid wood! This was why i was leaning towards the idea of positioning both bikes towards the offside. I drive a Jeep so by the time the bikes are on the roof the car is just under 3m high.

I run with 4 on the roof. Weight it evenly. Kids bikes in middle, adult bikes outside, although both my teenage kids bikes are now heavier than mine.
