Given all the strange things in tradition stories the main things that worried me about them when I was a kid
was the concept that they made the porridge
then went for a walk while it cooled
and the walk was long enough for a girl to arrive, taste all three, try three chairs
and try 3 beds
go to sleep
and when they came back one of them - which had been left just on the table - was still even warm - never mind hot!!!
the idea that bears make porridge or sit on chairs was OK
but porridge cooling that slowly worried me

And Mother Bear and Father Bear slept in separate beds, and (if the book illustrations are correct) all the bears slept in the same room - barracks or dormitory style.

You have to remember that these fairy tales originate from abroad. So not only are they bears, but they are also foreigners. So it's not surprising that they behave strangely.
