Don't fit those horrible hedge slashing things .
no implements allowed during the test. and i can't afford one of those fun hedge slashing toys at about £2-3,000 a pop second hand!
Top tip - if you want to improve your chances of passing make sure you build up a tail of at least twenty irate motorists, and keep them there for at least three miles.

Extra points for every blast of the horn you get.
right ho will do! do i do even better if i am particularly slow, drop lots of mud on the road and purposely stop people from overtaking?
We have those F****** tractors over here too but I wasn't aware that you had to take a test to aim one.
oh yes you have to take a test! not very extensive though i must say! and the thing is a tractors not much good without an implement or trailer but you aren't allowed to have either during the test, then straight after you can go and drive off with a huge trailer but yet you have to take a test to tow with a car???

Done hundreds of them.;)
Retired now.^_^
Vast majority of failures due to poor observation when moving off and when reversing around a corner.
You were on the Dark Side then, Dirk?

He was known as the 'Macbeth of the Road' Nightime lessons, practising with pupils in the local car park were the reason...
"Is this a dogger I see before me?" "No, it's a Dirk, silly."
Good luck, Ed Make hay while the shinola shines. And remember, during your test "Calm down Deere"

No test to drive a tractor at 16 when I were a lad, although I think you had to fill in a form to get a licence.

I recall the same rules applied to mobile cranes.

Some of those were quite big with lots of wheels.

I was told to always give them a wide berth on the road because the driver could have been an inexperienced 16-year-old.

times do and have changed it seems. i expect a mobile crane these days requires one to be 21 and take god knows what test and do god knows what training. some would say it's for the better some (me) would say it's for the worse
Front loader removed?
finally i serious comment! on the tractor i'm hoping to borrow it doesn't have one  don't think it would be a prob if it did have one though as one could say it's part of tractor and it was on there from the factory

Bale spike(s) can come in handy at times. Silage clamp at a junction can get you through quicker.

You will be able to drive it to the shops as one of the local lads does around here - looks a bit funny seeing a tractor in the supermarket car park:biggrin:

Guy I know used to go to the shops in his AEC Militant...

The test would not proceed if the tractor was presented with a front loader or any other attachment.eg. hedging or mowing gear.;)
thanks! knew about the hedge cutters, mowers, sprayers, trailers etc but wasn't sure on FEL. will make sure i don't turn up with one on then as one or two of the tractors i might use have got one on all the time but will have yank it off if i do use one of them
This'll be what @young Ed will be driving in the test

nah , that's well too small!
dvla said must be a maximum of 2.45m wide  party poopers!
You can drive a tractor (Cat F) on a normal driving licence (Cat B), but if you just want a Cat F licence then...

https://www.gov.uk/learning-to-driv...ng-tests-for-tractors-and-specialist-vehicles

... which seems to ignore driving with trailers/implements attached
can't get a car licence at 16 though!
